Attropiate About Us

It’s accepted good practice for a web site to have an “About Us” page.  So here’s one for this site about attropiate and attropiation.

The creator of attropiate is one Chris Davis (male of the species and the co-author of this site).  An Englishman living on the Greek island of Kos (as at 2024).

Languages – particularly those of Europe and Scandinavia have always been a source of fascination.

I grew up in a period that saw the evolution of the internet, the web (and other protocols running across it), information technology and artificial intelligence.

These spawned their own terminologies and iconography.

The “#” – the hashtag –  and the way it spread from a suggestion to widespread use could be said to be the key thing that sparked the idea for creating new words.

Combinations of letters (words) and pixels (images) that were not shown as already being recorded on the web.

Neologisms already existed. They were in “mainstream” use.

But what were they called before they became neologisms?

That gave birth to the polyonom and from that came..

attropiate.

Craig Galloway is the co-founder of this site.  He’s adept at using AI tools – notably to create WordPress plugins.

It was a conversation between Craig and Chris back in May 2025 that the idea of creating a site focussed around AI-generated summaries of individual entries volunteered from other authors’ WordPress sites came about.

Craig had already coded a beta version of WordPress plugin designed for sharing content to social media.

Extending that for authors to also share AI generated content to this site gave rise to the “YetiShareLink” WordPress plugin.
